Bird Decontamination

As a business owner or homeowner, the last thing you want is for pigeons or birds to enter your property and establish a nest. In one year alone, a pair of pigeons can hatch 12 eggs, so allow a flock to roost without taking action, and long term you could face large quantities of fouling and waste which can have a severe impact on your health, your property and the reputation of your business.

Issues Caused by Bird Mess

Damage to your property

Pigeon and bird droppings are highly acidic, which can case long term damage to the fabric of your building due to erosion and degradation.

Health hazards

Whilst wet, droppings pose a number of health risks and dangers, including accidents and slipping on pavements and fire escapes.

Fines

Under the Food Safety Act 1990, fines can be imposed if you fail to comply and meet Health & Safety Legislations. This is particularly damaging if your business provides or sells food.

Loss of reputation

Any form of wear and tear can impact on the reputation of your business, and bird mess is no different. Left unchecked, this unsightly appearance will discount the professionalism and quality of your service because - if you can't properly maintain your property, how can you help them?

Large bills

Severe infestation and continuous roosting can pose two expensive problems. Externally, the damage from their waste will add unwanted repair bills to your financing, whilst the expense of cleaning up their mess will become a regularly unwanted and long term expenditure.

Health Implications of Bird Contamination

Bird infestations and droppings bring with them a number of health complications and illnesses that can prove dangerous to your wellbeing:

Ornithosis
This is a process whereby organisms found in birds are passed onto humans through the inhalation of contaminated dust. Commonly found in bird droppings, feathers and nesting materials, these organisms can trigger severe illnesses and symptoms including: atypical pneumonia, high fevers, joint pain, conjunctivitis, low white blood cell counts plus much more which can only be treated with antibiotics.
Insect infestations
Lice, fleas, flies, ticks and mites are common bed fellows in nesting areas, and can present a number of health issues through their bites to humans.
Salmonella
This disease is just one of many that can be spread by birds. Contracted from farms, sewage plants and contaminated foods; birds sadly bring these illnesses with them whenever they establish new roosting grounds, leading to the eventual contamination of people.
